Bak Kwa / Chinese Pork Jerky (肉干)
Bak kwa (肉干) is a Chinese sweet salty dried meat, similar to jerky and is usually made with pork or chicken. It is an extremely popular savory snack for Chinese New Year in Singapore and Malaysia. After being inspired by many who made bak kwa themselves, I decided to try it out. Surprisingly, it is not as complicated as I thought would be. My husband got too excited and requested to add in paprika and curry powder in one of my batches of bak kwa. Oh well, we tried it and the bak kwa tasted like "twisties" BBQ curry flavor! Ok, next time, I'll stay with the original recipe (from Nasi Lemak Lover).
Ingredients:
I did not use any sweet soy sauce (kicap manis) because my first batch of bak kwa turns out darker and looks burnt! =( So, I removed that from the recipe, and my second batch turns out much better. |
