Broiled Cauliflower Steaks (with gremolata sauce)
I recently heard about cauliflower steaks and wanted to try them out! The recipe turns out rather simple (of course, that is because I usually oversimplify my recipes) and the steaks are yummy. Cauliflower is usually not part of my grocery list because someone else in my household is not a big fan of it. But...he loves this recipe too. So, hurray!! Haha. The only tricky part for me is cutting the cauliflower steaks. I ended up with only 4 steaks and florets of cauliflower. Regardless, this recipe is really worth a try. It is simple and makes a good appetizer or side.
First, I cut the cauliflower head into steaks. To do this, remove the outer leaves of the cauliflower, and slightly trim the stem. Take note that we have to leave the stem intact so that it holds the florets together.
I placed the cauliflower stem side down on a chopping board and first halved it. I then sliced the half head of cauliflower into about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick steaks. Repeat with the other half of cauliflower head. I ended up only 4 "steaks". The outer part of the cauliflower would crumble into small cauliflower florets. You could still broil the florets, but I chose to keep the florets for other use. |
