Wonton Soup
Wonton is a type of dumpling very commonly seen in Chinese cuisine. In Malaysia, "wonton noodle (wantan min)" is a popular food, where the dish is served in a hot broth with egg noodles, wontons and leafy vegetables like bok choy or choy sum. We also have the dried version, where the noodle is served dried, drenched in some black sauce (i.e. oyster sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce etc) and topped with char siew (barbeque pork), leafy vegetables and wontons. Sometimes, the wontons are served separately in a broth of soup. Oh, they are almost always served with pickled green chillies. Y-U-M.
There are also many different ways of wrapping wontons and I think it is up to your imagination on how to wrap them up. A wonton wrapped in any way would still taste just as good :)

We (yes, my husband played around with the wrappers as well! It was a fun bonding activity haha) also tried wrapping the wontons in four different shapes.
Note: This recipe yielded about 40 wontons. I kept half of them in the refrigerator for the next day :) Remember to place them in a single layer. Do not stack them because they will stick together. I also flour-ed the container so that the wontons will not stick to the container. Another easier way would be to line the container with parchment paper. |
